"Being a country kid from Kaitaia I never thought I would survive in a city, but I really enjoy living in Auckland. It caters to the needs of young adults and is a great place to live and study.
"I'm currently flatting although I spent my first two years at Grafton Hall, where I met some of my best friends. I attribute a lot of my success at University to the supportive environment there.
"I love sport and play rugby for the Auckland University Med School which helps me bond with my fellow students outside of class. And I still play for the Takapuna U21s in the North Harbour competition."
John is in his fourth year of a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at The University of Auckland.
